International Yoga Dey, 2017




 


The New India Manthan programme was organized by KrishiVigyan Kendra Phek, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Phek. Programme was initiated with the visit of Exhibition on the theme of doubling farmers income by the honble Chief Guest Sri KG Kenye. Visit was followed with Sankalp to Siddhi March from KVK Phek campus to Porba village panchayat hall with hundreds of farmer and youth holding placard.


Dr Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Nagaland formally welcomed the dignitaries and other participants present during the programme.


During his address he emphasized up on the importance of Mithun rearing as a component for doubling farmers income He stressedon semi intensive rearing of Mithun and urged to conserve the healthy and well-built male bulls for further genetic improvement of the stock.


Mr. Sekhozo, V.C.C Porbaexpressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, Shri. K.G Kenye, guest of honour Dr. R.S Gandhi, ADG, ICAR, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Ditector, ICAR-NRC on Mithun for gracing the occasion.


Dr. R.S Gandhi, ADG, Animal Science (AP&B), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi informed the gathering that although India has become self-sufficient in terms of food grains but there is also huge post-harvest losses that has to be checked. He emphasized that livestock being the important component in the hill states has lot of potential that needs to be exploited. Mithun and other livestock with superior germplasm will lead to better productivity and income generation.


Shri K.G. Kenye informed that the present government has put high priority towards agriculture and allied sector through improved technologies and schemes. Nagaland being an agrarian state can contribute towards the New India Movement by adopting organic farming. He acknowledges the achievements of KrishiVigyan Kendra-Phek and NRC on Mithun for their incessant effort to enhance the socio-economic condition of the farmers.


The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr RKSingh, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK-Phek.
