International Yoga Dey, 2017




 


An eight days Model Training Course on Small Scale Dairy Development as a Means of Livelihood Improvement in North-Eastern Region was inaugurated at ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland on 24.10.2017 with an objective to popularize small-scale dairy enterprise to improve the socio-economic status of farmers through livelihood improvement.


This training programme is sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India. More than 20 Veterinary Officers and Subject Matter Specialist (SMS), KVK from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland participated in the training programme.


The Chief Guest, Dr. (Capt) Dhananjaya Rao, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Jaluki, Paren district, Nagaland, appreciated the initiative taken by ICAR-NRC on Mithun by imparting such a training programme to the Veterinary officers and KVK officials which in turn will be helpful to fulfill the Govt. initiatives for doubling the farmers income by 2022. Dr. Rao also stressed upon the need of utilization of locally available resources and integration of agriculture component along with the dairy farming to make it a viable enterprise.


Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun highlighted the scope of dairy sector in the North-Eastern region. Due to changing lifestyle and increase per capita income, the demand for milk and milk products are steadily increasing. He apprised the house that Indian Dairy Industry has become now an attractive economic activity and growing at a steady growth rate of 4.5% against the global trend of 2.2%.


During this training programme, lectures and practical on various aspects including selection of dairy animals, nutritional, health care and reproductive management of dairy animals as well as clean and hygienic milk production, processing and packaging will be delivered to the participants. The valedictory programme will be held on 31.10.2017.
